Donnie “Ahas” Nietes continued his reign and retained his WBO light flyweight belt after a technical knockout win over another Mexican Gilberto Parra in the main event of Pinoy Pride 30 Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Nietes,
the current longest reigning Filipino world champion, sent Parra down to the
canvas with a left-right combination to the face. Parra was saved by the bell
but couldn’t continue for the 10th round as advised by the ringside physician.
Nietes’
victory capped a dominant showing by the Filipinos before their home crowd.
“First
round pa lang sabi ko sa sarili ko kaya kong patumbahin,” Nietes said. “Pero
sabi ni coach maging patient muna.”
“Magaling
din. Nahirapan din ako ng konti.”
Nonito
Donaire was successful in his return after an early stoppage win over William
Prado in the co-featured bout.
Filipino
prospect Albert Pagara was also triumphant after dominating Rodolfo Hernandez.
